Migraine Mini: Take Two Whatever and Call Me in the Morning

$45.00
1 available

My first migraine attack happened during the holidays of 2013. It lasted a total of 23 days.

During that time, I wrapped up the December celebrations with my elementary class, flew home for Christmas, became concerned enough with the state of my noggin to fly back to Idaho early to see my doctor, and wound up in Urgent Care. I tried literally everything I could think to do, that was within my power, to make the pain stop: Aleve, Excedrin, extra caffeine; I smoked weed; I got extra sleep; I stopped having caffeine for a few days; I took different OTC pain meds. I was in hell. I thought I might have a stroke on the airplane.

When I finally got back to Idaho, my regular doctor was out of town and I ended up in urgent care. I told her everything that had been going on, the timeline, everything I had tried. She gave me a printout on migraine, and told me to take two Excedrin. Which I had already done. Several times. To no avail. My regular doc eventually succeeded in defeating what learned was called intractable migraine with a 7-day Rx of Klonopin (which isn’t a migraine medication, but is a muscle relaxer for “stress and anxiety,” which again, not the correct dx).

"Take Two Whatever and Call Me in the Morning" 4×6 inch mixed media on canvas.

This series is as much about the issues of drug prices as it is about my life with migraine disease. My maintenance medication has a sticker price of $1200 per month. Why do they cost so much? I assume they are made of gold… so I crafted these little golden pills. So each of 30 completed works of art costs as much as one day of my migraine meds: $40
