Migraine Mini - Space Oddity 1

$45.00
1 available

The single weirdest type of aura I have experienced is called Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. It feels very much like the scene in Alice in Wonderland where Alice encounters the Eat Me / Drink Me treats and her body changes sizes in dramatic fashion.

Lewis Carroll suffered migraine and kept extensive record of his experiences. It’s thought that he may have been drawing from his experiences while writing the book. When I experience Alice syndrome, my “wires get crossed;” that is, my ability to sense my own body in space is disrupted. My hands feel like balloon animals filled with cement. The angle of gravity shifts by about 30 degrees. And everything appears to me as though I’m looking through the wrong end of a telescope.

There is an illustration in the original Alice of her growing to the size of the White Rabbit’s house and bursting through the windows. It’s an odd feeling. An oddity of (taking up) space.

"Space Oddity" 4×6 inch mixed media on canvas.

This series is as much about the issues of drug prices as it is about my life with migraine disease. My maintenance medication has a sticker price of $1200 per month. Why do they cost so much? I assume they are made of gold… so I crafted these little golden pills. So each of 30 completed works of art costs as much as one day of my migraine meds: $40
