Migraine Mini: Never Tell Me the Odds
Migraine disease impacts women at a rate 2-3x that of men. A quick review of the literature that wasn't behind a paywall revealed that only relatively recently have researchers begun parsing the difference in sex and gender when researching the migraine gender gap (look at that, a tie-in between Migraine Awareness Month and #Pride , which both occur in June). It's a complex disease, as anyone with migraine will tell you, and our neurologists will repeat. How and why there is such disparity is an unknown, but I will warrant a guess that the struggle to get our doctors, bosses, colleagues, friends, and family to take us seriously and understand it's more than "just a headache" is rooted firmly in medical misogyny.

This series is as much about the issues of drug prices as it is about my life with migraine disease. My maintenance medication has a sticker price of $1200 per month. Why do they cost so much? I assume they are made of gold… so I crafted these little golden pills. So each of 30 completed works of art costs as much as one day of my migraine meds: $40
