The Long Winter - Snowflake Ornament 2024
I am, at least, a third generation North Dakota girl. Possibly 4th or 5th generation, based on some stories about my paternal side of the family. We Upper Plains folk are, in theory, made of tougher stuff, on account of the long winters and formidable temperatures.
My grandpa was born in the midst of a 3-day blizzard, you see.
I am fairly cold intolerant, but I like to pretend I’m sturdy.
These ornaments are designed after a crocheted snowflake ornament from my grandma; my friend Curly used her digital modeling skills and 3D printer to make me a clay cutter in the crochet design. These ornaments were then hand-rolled and hand-cut. After curing, they were sanded, stained with indigo ink, and finished with acrylic glitter paint and ribbons.
I recommend listening to this rendition of Vivaldi’s Winter + Let it Go whilst decorating for the holidays.
