Smells Like Summer
"Smells Like Summer," 4×4×1½ inch acrylic on canvas, painted as part of the 28 February Flowers Instagram Challenge.
The Story: my parents have peonies in front of their house in North Dakota. Some of them have survived transplanting from other places multiple times. They seem like pretty resilient flowers. Every summer, we can count on a thunderstorm right as they reach peak bloom. They end up flattened, petals strewn everywhere, the morning breeze smelling of fresh rain and peonies.
The Process: I really dig discovering new pigments and trying to work them in with my favorites. The flower is apricot and Australian salmon gum. I didn't even use any indigo on this and I am not even bothered. Ok, maybe a little bothered?
Because this painting has been sitting in the studio since 2020*, it is listed at a reduced price compared to newer work. All rights reserved by the artist.
* Update: This piece is on sale at prices for the year it was painted! The list price reflects 2022 price scheme; the sale price reflects the prices I followed in 2020.
