Guerilla Irises
Important facts about Irises:
According to the USDA, there are approximately 280 species of irises in the world.
The majority of them are native to Europe and Asia.
Even though the imported garden irises are very beautiful, the 28 iris species native to the United States are beautiful in their own right.
This is just the number of species; there are thousands of cultivars
At one point, my great-grandmother Bertha had 81 different varieties of iris in her garden. She knew the names of every one of them
Great-grandma's Iris Garden was actually a guerilla garden along the railroad tracks, on land that belonged to the railroad. When the trail would go by, the engineer would toot the horn at her and wave. They went to the same church
Bonus fact: one time my grandma (her daughter, the one I call Grammy), my sister and I got to great-grandma's house, and she was in the neighbor's garden doing some guerilla weeding.
"Guerilla Irises" is a 5x7-inch dimensional collage. The papers are a mix of hand-painted and hand-printed papers, and textured mulberry paper. Because the collage extends beyond the edge of the paper, this would look best in a shadowbox where the edges of the artwork can be seen.
This piece of art was made in 2020, and the sale price of this piece reflects my 2020 price scheme.
We make every attempt to represent colors as accurately as possible, but be aware that differences among screens and paint pigments may result in variations. Please read our Shipping and Return Policy before purchasing.
